Are Puppies Better than Kittens to Have as a Pet?

Do you think puppies or kittens are better to have as a pet? I believe that puppies are better than kittens.  First, puppies know better than to poop in the house. Second, you don’t need to worry about claw damage with a puppy. Finally, puppies are known to help kids and elders with physical disabilities.

First, puppies know better than to go in the house. Do they really? My puppy went in the house. You need to train them right? They even know not to go in a box. If you have a puppy you don’t have to waste any money on cat litter or any type litter. Every year the cat litter prices go up about $10.  You can pick up dog poop in a bag, and then just throw it away. You don’t have to buy anything in this process.

Second, you don’t need to worry about any claw damage with a puppy. Puppies don’t claw (unlike cats). They don’t use their claws that much because their paws are more flat than a cat’s. A cat’s nail is curved so it helps them claw, but a dog’s nails are more flat. This causes it to be harder for dogs to claw.

Finally, puppies and dogs help kids and elders with physical disabilities. These dogs are called Service Dogs. PAWS is one of the many places that have service dogs to help people. PAWS Service Dogs can enhance a person’s independence by helping with tasks such as pulling a wheelchair, opening  doors, turning lights on/off, and picking up objects as small as a dime.

I still believe that puppies are better to have as a pet, but other people might disagree. First, when someone arrives at your house does your dog bark? Most of the time they do, but cats seem to observe arrivals from afar. Second, cats don’t shed hair like some pups do. Finally, most pups will always use their voices to express their moods, but a cat keeps mostly keeps quiet. If they feel upset, happy, excited, or just talkative they will bark very loudly. However, dog’s loud barks could be a good thing. If someone tries to rob you your dog would be alert, and he/she would bark to get your attention so you would know  what was going on, but a cat would most likely keep doing what it was doing. Cat allergies are twice as common as dog allergies, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

In conclusion puppies are better to have as a pet because they don’t go in the house, they don’t claw, and they help people with disabilities. If you get a kitten instead of a puppy you will most likely have some scratched up furniture. So, if you want to get a new pet, I suggest that you get a puppy instead of a kitten.
